PTO Leader of the Week: Wendy Nance

I’m excited today to introduce you to another fabulous PTO Leader, Wendy Nance!

She’s been involved with PTO for two years and is currently serving as President of her PTO located in Brownwood, Texas.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been involved, we all can learn from one another, so let’s hear what Wendy has to share!

Tell us a little about your family and your PTO/PTA journey

I’m a mom of two and a wife of 20 years!

I’ve had the privilege of staying at home for the last two years and it’s allowed me to engage more in my son’s school and sports activities.

I coached his soccer team for two seasons and now I’m assisting.

Our PTO was comprised of three moms leading the charge for the last three years and they all were leaving in the spring.

I offered to step in and help as needed and I was nominated as President and Secretary.

President won and I work with two other parents with kids in different grades, so when I leave at the end of this year, they can carry on without a major disruption.

I feel like we are starting over this year, so we are running behind, but that’s okay.

It’s important that we are confident in everything we do and that we document everything well for future board members.

Tell us about why you got involved in your school parent group?

I just want to be involved in my kids education which includes helping teachers and creating fun activities for the school.

What’s your favorite way to volunteer?

I thrive during big events, but right now it’s being President.

What’s coming up in your PTO/PTA that you’re excited about?

For the first year, we are selling Boo Grams and Christmas Grams.

I can’t wait to see how the students respond to these extra treats.

What’s something you’ve accomplished with your PTA/PTO that you’re super proud of?

Being able to translate everything into Spanish.

What’s one piece of advice for PTO/PTA leaders who are just starting out you’d like to share?

Just breath and tackle big objectives one step at a time.

It’s okay to change things up (get rid of an existing activity or starting new ones).

In a word, sum up your life as a PTO/PTA volunteer
