Ah, the crack of the bat, the cheer of the crowd, the smell of fresh popcorn…
There’s something about baseball that just screams “classic American pastime.”
But you know what else deserves a stadium full of fans and a seventh-inning stretch?
Teachers, school staff and administrators. Those dedicated souls who inspire, guide, and educate our kids day in and day out.
So why not combine the two and plan a baseball-themed Teacher Appreciation Week hosted by your Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) that knocks it out of the park?
Here’s your week-long game plan to make the celebration a grand slam:
Draft Your Staff Appreciation Team
Just like in baseball, planning a successful Teacher Appreciation Week is a team sport.
Gather a group of enthusiastic parents, and students, and staff members to form your Teacher Appreciation planning committee.
Now a note about this week and who exactly should be recognized during Teacher Appreciation Week.
It may be called Teacher Appreciation week, but all of your school’s staff should be included in the festivities.
All para-professionals, custodians, secretaries and administrative assistants, lunch aides, counselors and social workers and anyone else employed by the school.
Include them all and treat them equally because each is playing a vital part in keeping the school running.
Set the Appreciation Week Lineup
Decide on the lineup of activities for the week.
Each day could have a special theme or event that ties back to baseball.
For example:
Monday Opening Day
Kick things off with a morning batter up staff appreciation breakfast to start the week.
Incorporate baseball into the mornings breakfast with this cute cupcake stand.
It’s totally up to you to decide whether cupcakes are breakfast food or whether muffins would be more appropriate.
Add some mini fruit skewers to the menu and use these baseball themed food picks to put them on.
Tuesday: Doubleheader Day
Teachers receive two tokens of appreciation on this day.
This could be a coffee in the morning and a handwritten note from students and parents in the afternoon.
Use this Coffee Run pre-order form to streamlined the beverage delivery.
This set of thank you notes are on theme and wonderfully colorful, making them the a fantastic base for the personalized thank you cards for teachers and staff.
Wednesday: Seventh-Inning Stretch
Set up a concession snack stand in the Teacher’s Lounge, filled classic ballpark snacks.
Add to the room’s decor with this cute concessions banner.
Popcorn is a tasty and super cost effective staff appreciation treat.
If your PTO doesn’t already have it’s very own popcorn machine, this week is a great time to get one.
You’ll get a ton of use out of it for so many school events, like a school movie night or end of the school year picnic.
Pre-pop several batches of popcorn and load up these popcorn boxes for a grab and go treat.
Set out a nice assortment of popcorn flavoring sprinkles so staff can customize their popcorn treat.
Peanuts are another classic baseball snack, but since so many people have allergies, it’s a great idea to serve them in pre-packaged pouches.
Don’t forget about Cracker Jack!
And set out a bucket of Big League Chew gumballs, a great alternative to the normal pushes of gum.
Thursday: Home Run Derby
Organize a luncheon for the staff and teachers to enjoy.
You can go with a classic ballpark meal with hot dog with all the fixings or with a potluck style buffet.
Be sure to offer some vegan hot dog options for those who don’t eat beef or pork.
These baseball themed food trays are a great alternative to plates and will help keep food from spilling.
Have loads of napkins on hand too!
Friday: World Series Celebration
End the week on a sweet high note with an ice cream bar.
These baseball cups are really cute and can be used to serve the ice cream itself or for a variety of toppings.
Or use these cute baseball hat bowls!
These squeezable sundae toppings from Smucker’s are an easy way to offer different toppings.
Mini M&Ms are a tasty ice cream topping.
Keep things neat and tidy by using this partitioned server for the dry toppings.
If you opt for open serving bowls for the dry toppings, then these small food scoops can make serving easy and keep things tidy.
Hit It Out of the Park with Decorations
Transform your school into a baseball lover’s dream.
Start with the ceiling and hang some fun swirl decorations.
This set of baseball icon swirls will mix in nicely with the baseball swirls.
Mix in some giant baseball paper lanterns for a big graphic punch.
Use these stacks of baseball signs outside the entrance of the staff lounge or post them along the interior walls for a temporary teacher’s lounge makeover.
Next, hang some baseball pennants along the walls for some easy pops of color and decorations.
Whip up a baseball themed balloon arch using this kit.
If you’ve never made a balloon arch before, know that it looks a lot harder than it actually is!
Check out all the details for how to make a balloon arch.
Don’t forget about decorating the table spaces too.
Covering the tables with a disposable baseball tablecloth not only makes the space look theme perfect, but also makes clean up at the end of the event easy.
Place one of these honeycomb baseball decorations in the center of the tables.
And layer on a healthy handful of baseball confetti along the table.
Over to you!
And now you have all you need to plan the perfect baseball themed teacher appreciation week!
Planning a baseball-themed Teacher Appreciation Week is more than just a fun theme; it’s a chance to show our educators how much you value their hard work and dedication.
Give them the standing ovation they deserve and make this Teacher Appreciation Week one for the record books.
Let’s go!
